Under 6's & 7's
This is a very popular age group and is the start of our nipper surf awareness and education. This is a fun time for the little ones and a time to learn how to enjoy and respect the beach and surf. We hope they learn about sun safety as well.
This group only enters the water to their knee so there is no necessity to meet a swim time for proficiency. But it is advised to start their pool swimming to prepare them for the years ahead. As they progress to the U9’s they will be required to do a surf swim which is not achievable if the children are not pool swimming. So enroll them in swimming lessons and squad training in readiness for the surf at a later date.
Parent Helpers
Being able to participate in your child’s activities is a great fun. To be able to do this in the further development of your child’s surf life you are welcome and encouraged to obtain a surf bronze medallion or surf rescue certificate. These allow yourself to swim and participate in water safety with your child. This is satisfying for your self and enjoyable and reassuring for your child as they start there water events.
Surf Bronze Medallion & Surf Rescue Certificate
The difference between the two awards is the swim. The bronze you are required to do a 400 metre pool swim and the surf rescue certificate a 200 metre pool swim. Sunday events cannot go ahead if we do not have enough water safety to protect our nippers.
Lastly all our age groups have age managers who mark off names and run the different activities throughout the morning. This young age group will need parents to help and encourage the kids so hopefully we shall have plenty of helpers for this season.
